Windows XP Professional Release:
- Windows XP Professional has been released as a fully supported operating
system to the SEAS production network as of May 1, 2002
Windows XP versions other than Professional:
- Windows XP Home, Media Center, Tablet PC, etc. are predominantly consumer/home
oriented operating systems and have non-conformities that preclude their participation
within the SEAS production network as desktop operating systems.
- As a result, Windows XP Home [and all other versions other than Professional]
are currently NOT approved for the SEAS production network. However,
these operating systems can be utilized with a "stand alone" computer
not connected to the network.
- Please contact the CNG [via "Problem"]
for questions regarding this release statement and for assistance with connecting
any current/future Windows XP Professional computers to the SEAS network.
NOTE: Because Windows XP Professional is a multi-user operating system, local
administrator privileges for Windows XP Professional systems will be maintained
solely by CNG staff per section 2.8.8 of University of Rochester School of
Engineering and Applied Sciences Computer Use Policy [see link below].
