Sophos Anti-Virus [AV] software
- The Hajim SEAS [HSEAS] Sophos AV solution is provided for
the exclusive use by
HSEAS faculty, students and staff that are directly affiliated with the
school, on computers that are used within UofR wired/wireless networks.
- If you are not directly affiliated with HSEAS, but are part of the UofR
community and want to install Sophos AV software on a personal laptop
or other system not owned by the UR should see the UniversityIT Sophos
AV web site [below] for more information on participating in the
UniversityIT Sophos AV program.

Note: Whether or
not you use Sophos AV, it is critical that you have up-to-date AV
software installed on any Windows host that is connected to
UofR wired/wireless networks (including HSEAS segments) for the
security of the UofR computing community, as well as your own system. Also, be sure the virus definitions on a frequent/regular basis and do
not disable your AV software.
SophosAV support within HSEAS
There are two levels of Sophos AV support
available within HSEAS for Windows systems:
- The CNG provides full
Sophos AV support for [CNG] managed systems
that are members of the SEAS Windows domain. To determine if your
computer is managed by the CNG and is a member of the SEAS domain,
review the "How to
determine if your Windows computer is a member of the SEAS
- The CNG provides minimal Sophos AV support for self-managed systems
that are not members of the SEAS Windows domain. To
determine if your computer is managed by the CNG and is a member of the
SEAS domain, review the "How to determine if
your Windows computer is part of the SEAS Windows domain" reference
If your computer is a self-managed system, then you should review the Self-Managed Systems Support page.
How to determine if your Windows computer is part of the
- "Right click" on the "My Computer" icon.
- Select the "Properties" option.
- Select the "Computer Name" tab.
- Note Field Descriptor below "Full computer name" [see

If you see Domain in this field, then your computer is a
member of the SEAS domain and is a managed machine.
SEAS Workgroup Member [self-managed] Computer

If you see Workgroup in this field, then your computer isn't a member
of the SEAS Windows domain and in all likelihood is
self-administered machine; this can be any workgroup designation, SEAS
was used for illustrative
